Dear Troops in California, America Is Against Your Misuse by Donald Trump

To the Marines, the National Guard, and every service member deployed to California under this illegitimate and deeply politicized order: this is not your fault. You are not the problem. You are the proof of it.

You were sent into Los Angeles without clarity, without support, and without purpose. Not to defend the nation from foreign threat. Not to protect life in a crisis. But to posture. To intimidate. To serve the performative authoritarianism of a man who has mistaken power for principle. And now, your morale is broken, your mission unclear, and your very presence an affront to the community you are forced to occupy.

We’ve seen the reports. You’re being housed poorly, your logistics are undermanned, and the legal justification for your presence is crumbling in court. The orders came down not because of military necessity—but because Donald Trump wanted to punish political opposition in California. He wanted the image of control. Of boots on the ground. Of obedience from a military that was never meant to be his private army. And in doing so, he has conscripted your honor into a lie.

But we want you to know—we see it. The people of this country—especially those who understand what the military is supposed to be—know this is wrong. And we are against it. Against the misuse of your courage. Against the hijacking of your duty. Against the manipulation of your oaths in service of his insecurities.

What Trump has done is not strength. It is cowardice. It is a hollow man hiding behind uniforms. It is a betrayal of the chain of command, of the principle of civilian restraint, and of the states whose sovereignty he trampled. You were sent into a civilian population not to serve the country—but to send a message. A message of fear. Of federal supremacy. Of political vendetta dressed in fatigues.

And yet even in this injustice, you hold yourselves with discipline. You endure. You express frustration not through disobedience, but through the quiet dignity of professionalism under fire. That matters. Because in this moment, even as your orders betray the values you swore to uphold, your character does not.

So this is not a condemnation of you. This is a message to you. A message of support. Of clarity. Of purpose. You are not alone in your disgust. You are not confused in vain. The people know. The veterans know. The constitutional scholars and former commanders know. This deployment is political theater—and you are the unwilling cast.

The truth is simple: Donald Trump is misusing the military. And every day you are forced to carry out this sham of a mission, more Americans come to understand just how deeply he’s willing to abuse the institutions that were built to protect—not suppress—this republic.

You deserve better. California deserves better. And the country deserves better than a man who sends troops not to war, not to defend, but to menace and distract.

We’re with you. And we’ll fight—legally, politically, and morally—to bring you home.
