The Staggering Stupidity of MAGA’s Last Stand

There comes a point in every collapsing republic when the delusion of its citizens becomes so profound, so all-encompassing, that it ceases to be mere ignorance and crosses into the realm of collective psychosis. We are well past that point. The MAGA faithful—those who now shout down reality, embrace conspiracy as gospel, and defend the indefensible—have reached a staggering level of stupidity that must no longer be coddled or excused. Their behavior isn’t patriotic. It’s zombified treachery wrapped in a red hat.
It used to be that political differences revolved around ideas: taxation, social values, foreign policy. But we now live in a time where one side of the electorate believes that Donald Trump, a man caught red-handed in corruption, obstruction, election tampering, and disinformation, is the second coming of George Washington. They excuse every felony with fantasies. They dismiss every betrayal with projection. And they twist every act of criminality into a story of persecution. Their loyalty is not to America—it is to a grifter who sold out his own country to the Russians while waving a flag.
The normalization of Trump’s behavior—his open bribery, his attempted coup, his public praise of dictators—is the single greatest act of self-betrayal in modern American history. These people call themselves patriots, but they would spit on the Constitution to protect their golden calf. If Trump were to burn the Bill of Rights on live television, they’d say it was performance art. If Putin pinned a medal on him, they’d say he deserved it. They have become ideological husks, willing to repeat any lie, deny any fact, and destroy any institution, so long as it feeds the narrative that Trump is righteous and the rest of the world is out to get him.
At this rate, it wouldn’t be surprising if tomorrow they claimed Pope Francis brought us the Statue of Liberty, or that JFK Jr. was a reincarnation. They already believe that a multi-time indicted con man is the holy leader of a nation he tried to overthrow. They already excuse his theft of classified documents, his role in January 6, and his clear subservience to Vladimir Putin. What’s another absurdity at this point?
Let us be clear: this is not ignorance that can be educated away. This is not a misunderstanding of policy. This is willful stupidity, weaponized through propaganda and hardened by grievance. It is a nihilistic cult that worships grievance more than country, chaos more than law, and myth more than fact. These people would rather destroy the nation than admit they were wrong.
And as long as the media continues to treat their beliefs as legitimate, and politicians continue to court them for votes, the disease will fester.
So no, we must not be polite. We must not pretend this is normal. It is not. It is the final defense of the indefensible. It is treason by delusion. It is the death spiral of a movement that traded principle for personality and nation for narcissism. The MAGA faithful are not victims. They are volunteers.
And history will remember them not as patriots, but as the mob that begged for their own chains.
