Donald Trump’s loathing for Ukraine is not a policy position—it’s a pathology. It’s not rooted in strategy or interest, but in humiliation. He hates Ukraine because Ukraine refuses to bow, and in Trump’s warped worldview, the weak must submit to the strong. He bent the knee to Vladimir Putin long ago, and Ukraine’s defiance makes that surrender look even more cowardly.

Trump does not see international relationships through the lens of sovereignty or principle. He sees them through the lens of dominance. He praises strongmen not because of their legitimacy but because of their ability to command submission. And that’s exactly what Vladimir Putin has over him. Trump doesn't just admires power. He envies it. And he resents anyone who challenges it.

That’s why Ukraine enrages him.

Ukraine, under Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has not only resisted Putin’s full-scale invasion but has done so with courage and creativity that has surprised even seasoned military analysts. The recent $9-billion drone assault that damaged or destroyed numerous Russian strategic bombers deep inside Russian territory isn’t just a tactical win—it’s a symbolic one. It proves that Ukraine has cards to play. And that’s what Trump cannot stand.

Trump once said that Ukraine “doesn’t have the cards” and would need to “make a deal.” That line wasn’t just wrong—it was projection. Trump doesn’t believe in resisting stronger forces than him. He believes in appeasement. He believes in bowing before power, as he does repeatedly with Putin. Ukraine’s refusal to do so puts a mirror to Trump’s face. It reveals his craven weakness for what it is.

Worse still for Trump, recent reporting confirms that Ukraine did not inform the U.S. government in advance of its drone attacks—effectively sidelining the White House. This wasn’t just a snub; it was a statement. Ukraine can act without permission. It does not need to ask for validation. And for a man like Trump, who views global politics as a hierarchy of submission, that’s unbearable.

So don’t be surprised when Trump lashes out. Don’t be surprised when he spreads conspiracy theories, undermines aid packages, or starts ranting about Ukraine again. This isn’t geopolitical analysis. This is rage. It’s psychological fallout from a man whose slavish devotion to Putin is being made a mockery of by a country half his size and ten times his courage.

Ukraine has cards. Ukraine has real strength. Ukraine has honor. Trump has none of these things.

And that’s why he hates them.
